Indy Hoops, Inc. started operations 8 years ago during the 1997 - 1998 basketball season with 13 fourth grade teams from 11 communities. The 2004-05 season has seen Indy Hoops grow to 166 teams from 38 communities around central Indiana. The league now has 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade teams, with A and B division in each.
All teams are school teams. All Players must reside in the same defined school district that funnels into the same high school. No All-Star Teams!!! A player that pays tuition to a school district is eligible only with proof of tuition payment.
Indy Hoops is building feeder programs for the high school programs. Varsity coaches such Jimmie Howell (Brownsburg/Lapel), Scott White (Ben Davis), Dave Clark (Franklin), Dana Greene (Plainfield) have coached teams through the league. Other coaches are actively involved in recruiting teams from their communities to play in Indy Hoops. Joe Luce, former Assistant Varsity Coach of Hamilton Southeastern and current Head Boys Varsity Coach of Marion High School, had this to say about Indy Hoops:
"Indy Hoops is helping strengthen the foundation of Indiana high school
basketball. With all of the AAU teams and all-star teams pulling young
players out of their communities and promoting migration, Indy Hoops
fights this by promoting school team basketball. This unbelievable
organized school team league is a must for any high school program that
is serious about building for the future. Indy Hoops puts kids first and
stands for what Indiana High School Basketball is all about-community
togetherness."
Joe Luce
Head Varsity Basketball Coach, Marion High School
The original Indy Hoopers are now Juniors in high school. These old Indy Hoopers are playing for their varsity teams:
Brett Finkelmeier & Eric Schneider Carmel
Cam Smith, Nick Rodgers - Noblesville
Zac Hendren Avon
Mark Titus Brownsburg
Anthony Furlin Hamilton SE
Cody Long Franklin
Trevor Leach, Bryce Ator, Andy Kramer Danville
Kevin Pusaterri, Casey Cummings, Kyle Foster Cascade
Tyler Davis, Mooresville
